On Business Basics

The 4 P's of Marketing A good introduction the 4 Ps of marketing: Product, Price, Place Promotion

On Financial Statements

The Profit and Loss Statement In business, the main use for preparing profit and loss (P&L) projections or statements is to determine how profitable the business venture will be. This helps us to fine tune our venture for optimal performance.
The Sales Forecast In preparing a projection of a company's future revenues and expenses, a sales forecast must first be prepared. Whereas expenses can be controlled by management on a day by day basis, sales occur only when outside parties make a proactive purchase decision.
Cash Flow Projections Profit and Loss (or Income) financial statements tell us little about the actual cash flow in a business. Profit and loss is accounted for on an "accruals" basis - i.e. changes in assets and liabilities - not cash. Many highly profitable companies have gone out of business for cash flow reasons - not for lack of profitability
The Balance Sheet Recall that a balance sheet is a financial snapshot which shows the current health of the business as measured in terms of its assets and liabilities. So, how can we determine what our inventory will be (in dollar terms) at the end of the first or second years? What about 5 years forward? How much cash will our customers owe us?

On Being Productive

What is Productivity? A simple question spins through my mind as I walk the hall towards the exit: “What did I accomplish this week?”, and the answer with not a moment’s hesitation: “Not much”...
I Work Hard, So Why Don't I Fee Productive? Everybody works. Many people work hard. Only a very few are truly productive. You feel unproductive because you are unproductive!
Tell Your Boss Where to Go My resolution this year is to tell my boss where to go. Not only am I planning to tell my boss where to go; I expect him to thank me for doing it.

On Leadership

Lessons in Leadership A look at the fine art of leadership through the eyes of a softball coach. Ten short lessons in leadership.
Customer Leadership “I never perfected an invention that I did not think about in terms of the service it might give others… I find out what the world needs, then I proceed to invent…” – Thomas Edison
“The Customer is god” – Japanese proverb

On Time Management

Effective Time Management A basic summary of Time Management from Engineers International. The author covers 6 basic steps: Planning, Prioritising, Being prepared, Delegating, Allocating Resources, and Following up. The rest of this site is more technical, but I thought this was a nice little article.
